I've wanted this Lego Piano set ever since it came out on August 1st 2020, and I'm not usually interested in building Legos!
This fun toy stirs a feeling of pure excitement for piano lovers in anticipation of putting it all together to play the keys and hear them playback! (I want one too).
The Lego piano can be played by a piano player by pressing the piano keys, which is great for the music lover.
It also has a Player Piano component that can play the keys back all on its own.
Lego Grand Piano
Fallboard Logo
I like how the fallboard above the keys displays the name "Lego" where it usually displays whichever manufacture created the piano like Steinway, Yamaha, Kawai etc.
The creative imaginations of the Lego team went all-out when it comes to this particular Lego product. I find that there are many details closely resembling the parts and components of real pianos.
Key Leveling
As a piano tuner, I can't help but notice that the piano keys are not level. Keys must be perfectly level on a real piano for optimal playing.
Thankfully, this isn't a real piano! I happened to notice this detail that I can't un-see this pet peeve!
Casters
The wheels underneath each leg of this piano are also known as "casters."
Lego did a terrific job to imitate exactly how these wheels look under each leg.
Pedal Lyre
The lyre where the pedals of the piano are located closely resemble that of a real piano. The support rods imitate how they are found on a real piano to contribute to its realistic appearance.
The lyre includes 3 pedals which reflect accurately how most grand pianos do in fact include 3 pedals.
Artist Bench
Replicating the intricate details of a real Artist Bench, Lego includes the knobs, cushion, and tufted upholstery (buttons).
At first glance, the Lego team replicated high quality Artist Benches perfectly.

"Pulling" the Action
Like the Lego piano, the action here with the keys and hammer can be removed from a grand piano in a similar fashion.
The action is "pulled" so that technicians can work on the thousands of delicate parts in a process called "regulation." Regulated piano keys perform optimally and consistently for the best performance.
Hammer Moulding Core
The red color of the inside of the hammer moulding core represents the color of the underfelt found in the inner core of the hammer of a piano. The underfelt is more dense to support the tone that the hammer produces.
Shape of the Hammers
Ideally, the hammers should be shaped like an egg in a well maintained piano.
Here, Lego demonstrates the realistic characteristic of a piano hammer with a flattened point due to wear & tear of playing the piano.
Lego Player Piano!
Electronic Player Systems, Silent systems, and Recording strips can be added to regular pianos.
Similarly, this Lego Piano can have playback features installed into this Lego piano!
Adding the "Powered Up" battery pack, a few wires, and cable connections, the Lego piano is all set to playback a few songs on its own.
Lego Grand Piano Gift
The Lego Grand piano is a piano players' and Lego lovers' dream come true! It's the perfect give for any piano lover.
This Lego piece is on my wishlist for 2025 so that I can do a piano tuner technical review of how it compares to many different facets of a real piano.
I believe it will become a staple product in peoples homes that I hope lasts the test of time, so that it remains on the shelves.
Lego Piano App
Lego Player Piano App
Lego includes a playback app just for the piano! Real pianos have this too!
The latest Player Pianos in real life include similar apps available on mobile devices to select songs for playback.
Play/listen to the piano playback music from the mobility of your phone.
Lego Piano on Display
The aesthetic of this Lego piano similarly matches the characteristic of a real life piano.
Lego Piano Finish
The black high polish look of the lego pieces imitates the solid and smooth polyester finish of a real piano.
Lid & Lid Prop
The lid and lid prop are stylistically accurate over the music shelf silhouette. The hinges of the lid are similar to many grand pianos.
Sheet Music Prop
The music plackard symbolizes piano sheet music for the piano player to read when sitting down at an authentic piano.
I hope you enjoyed this commentary about the Lego Grand Piano. I can't wait to get my own one day...
