I wish these were around when I was a kid! That’s the quick version of what I really have to say about this pedal box as both a piano player and piano technician / tuner.

This is one of the most common accessories that piano owners have. The piano pedal extender provides easier access to the sustain pedal, sostenuto pedal (or bass sustain), and soft pedal for young pianists.

As a piano technician, I'll help describe how to set it up properly for all types of pianos and offer a few helpful details you should know.

How to reach pedals of a piano?

As you can see with this side angle, the pedal box uses rods, springs, and adjustable ends to transfer force down to the pedal.

My only concern with this product is that sometimes the pedal box may migrate too close or too far away from the pedals which may cause it to lose contact with the pedals.

If the box is too close up against the lyre, it may catch whichever pedal is longest. (Usually the middle pedal; rarely)

The pedal box add-on will need to be repositioned at the proper distance once or twice during normal practice in order for it to operate best.

Generally speaking, a little movement around on the floor won't get it to malfunction. The gross weight is only about 4-5 pounds so it strikes a balance of achieving stability. I’m just being picky with my observations!

Features of the Punk Piano Pedal Extender

The pedal box will add a new look and feels surprisingly sleek, stationary, and quiet for being such a large contraption.

A great detail is that it provides enough surface area for both feet for comfortable foot resting while playing at the piano.

No extra noise coming from this add-on, which I thought was pleasant surprise!

How to adjust the Pedal Extender?

There are a couple important adjustments to be made so that it operates seamlessly.

The best way to get the proper value of this device is to understand how and why the correct adjustment makes this the perfect addition for young learners. The good thing is that you can learn it here!

2 Essential Pedal Box Extender Adjustments

1. The adjustable height of the box can be changed using the large knobs on the left and right side of the box.

*This adjustment is meant to establish the right height of the box to the feet of even the earliest of piano performers.

2. The other necessary adjustment for optimal performance is on the underside of the pedal mechanism.

The circular contacts at the end of each rod must be adjusted/tightened using the T-shaped knobs. Aim for a small 1/4” of extra space before the circular contacts touch the actual piano pedals.

The small amount of extra space is called "lost motion." Ideally, it should be corrected each time after adjusting the box by the large knobs.

Pedal Box Setup Complete!

Once the pedal box is all setup, it doesn’t need to be adjusted any further.

It is always a good idea to checkup on it as a daily practice to see if it has both stayed in the exact position for the student’s needs.

Checking on the correct “lost motion” can be done every few months, or after any adjustments to the overall height of the pedal box.
