LEGO Grand Piano: WATCH Gift Review of Self-Playing Keys
This is my Lego Grand Piano Set given to me on my birthday and so elegantly pieced together by my wife.
See all of the intricate features in this quick video that I made revealing the similarities to a real piano!
You can see that the Lego piano bench is adjustable and is similar to how real piano benches operate as well!
The fallboard that acts as a cover and closes above the keys come branded with the name "LEGO" just like any piano in real life that would proudly display the name of the manufacturer.
On the left, right, and front sides of the keys the LEGO piano shows the "cheek blocks," "arms," and the "key slip" with a brass lock on it for when the fallboard is securely closed, it can lock into place.
The music shelf above the keys carries its own sheet music! The LEGO sheet music reads "Play Day" by Donny Chen and has notes written on the page.
It's possible to rotate the sheet music stand upwards or downwards depending on the preferred angle of the music shelf (to hold the music just right). The LEGO adjustable supports are similar to how a real grand piano music shelf operates.
The music shelf comes with a sheet music guide rail so that the sheet music doesn't fall out of place. It's also possible to completely remove the music stand, just like in a real piano.
Inside the "action cavity" of the LEGO piano you can see the hammer moving up and down by pressing the front of the key. The damper in the back rises as well when the back of the key lifts the bottom of the damper.
The LEGO piano comes with a "lyre" below the keyboard with 3 pedals. The right pedal can be pushed down to activate all of the dampers just like a "sustain pedal."
The lid prop can be propped (at a 90 degree angle) so the case parts of the lid stay open or closed. Whether you prefer the piano to be open or prefer the sleek look of all the case parts closed.
The shape of the outside of the cabinet parts for the LEGO piano is fairly accurate (even including lid hinges) considering that it's all made out of legos! Interestingly, it weighs quite a lot and you may need to pick it up with both hands!
The 3 legs of the LEGO piano roll around on top of 3 wheels, also known as "casters." These wheels both rotate 360 degrees and begin to turn 360 degrees when the piano is moved.
Below the music shelf the tuning pins can be spotted by the way the LEGO pieces appear. Each cylinder theoretically represents one tuning pin.
The LEGO Pianos "plate," "soundboard," "plate bolts," and (not acoustic holes, but) "cooling holes" are all visible. The purpose of the cooling holes are to help the cast iron plate cool evenly when it's being made so that the "plate" doesn't crack.
The red felt at the end of the strings is meant to reduce sympathetic resonances that occur. While a certain amount of sympathetic resonances are preferable, having too many can become a distraction within a real acoustic piano.
The back of each key includes red felt which presses against the "damper spoon" to lift the dampers off of the string so that the strings can resonate. Once the key returns to its rest position so will the damper, thus muting the string.
The LEGO bluetooth compartment will allow your iPhone to connect to the LEGO app, where you can select songs for the LEGO piano to playback by itself. It's also possible to select a song so that you can play the keys and a song will play at the tempo with which you press the keys!
The LEGO "Power Up" app is easy to connect via bluetooth with your iPhone after pressing the pair button within the hidden compartment. Select from 10 songs to play on its own, or for you to play the LEGO piano!
The LEGO piano keys will play up and down by themselves through the duration of the song that you select.
Watch the LEGO Grand Piano play by itself!
When you press the keys it will playback a song of your choice through the speakers at the rate that you press the keys!
Each song displays its own sheet music when you've decided your preferred musical piece.
I have to say that the LEGO piano set looks fantastic in the house with all of the light in front of the window. It was a snowy day, so it looked even more magical!
