Pelican 1510 Carry-On Case
I was inspired to get the Pelican 1510 because my piano technician colleague owned one to hold his piano tuner tools.
I purchased the Pelican case this summer to replace my old tool bag and I have to say that I am very pleased with it!
The great part about this tool kit is that it can be brought on an airplane for travel; it's the travel-ready technician case.
Affordability is a no-brainer. The model that I have is less expensive compared with the other options that Pelican offers. None of the materials used feels cheap. It's all sturdy, advanced composite, and hardened material.
Pelican Carry On Luggage Handle
The handle on the Pelican case stands only at about 3 feet tall.
Unfortunately, this is not quite tall enough to avoid the wheel colliding into the back of my heels from time to time. That's why I hold it off to my right-hand side as I walk. Otherwise, I'll trip over it every once in a while, which is an issue.
Though, it's plenty sturdy annd strong even when filled with heavy tools or gear.
Large interior case for Pelican 1510
Oddly shaped items can be placed in this long and narrow compartment that I specifically planned for.
Some items that fit nicely:
Hammers
Long screw drivers
Scissors
Lid props
Key pin bender
It comes down to how well one can use their imagination to fit all of the tools needed.
These Klein bags are some of my favorite utility tool bags to store heavy duty pliers, stringing gear, and miscellaneous odds and ends.
The bags are a staple of my travel tool kit setup and remained an integral part in my latest Pelican upgrade.
In the front left compartment I'm able to fit two tool rolls on top of each other. The depth of the Pelican case is convenient to store what I need.
Pelican 1510 Customizable Compartments
The compartments are easier to configure than I had realized. Included with the Pelican 1510 is a protective razor blade tool to cut through whichever part of the divider needs customizing.
After configuring the grid layout of the inner walls, I secured each wall by using the clips provided.
After I decided how I wanted the dividers to look, the outcome appeared professional, like it had been organized this way at a factory. The dividers looked like they were factory-made!
Here you can see that everything comes together in a neatly compartmentalized fashion.
My tool compartments include:
Liquids
Tool rolls
Oddly shaped objects
Klein bag miscellaneous storage
So far, I really like the organizational factor. It also helps that everything is visible and easy to reach.
Pelican Adjustable Storage Compartments
Here's the smallest compartment that I created by specifically cutting the dividers to size.
I'm able to put a piano tuning temperament strip wrapped up in this small crevice, as well as a small USB flash drive for Disklavier Player-Piano Software updates.
The photo above demonstrates how the compartments can be cut-to-size for any tool.
Assembling the Customizable Divider Walls
After cutting the divider walls to size, I insert the connecting pin to secure the position of the walls within the Pelican Case.
The red tab easily helps to remove the clip to reposition the wall if needed.
There's a lot of customization that can be made with only the compartments.
The dividers can be customized for:
Long dividing walls
Short dividing walls
Square boxes
Rectangles of all sorts of different sizes
This way you can be sure you'll be able to fit your gear inside so long as it's not larger than the Pelican case itself.
Pelican 1510 Tool Organizer
The compartment in the lower right hand side includes liquids, gel lubricants, powdered lubricants, and pipets.
I keep this completely separated and protected from my other tools. There is no exposure of any kind to other tools, due to the securely packed nature of this Pelican case.
Water-Proof Pelican Case
The clasps are heavy-duty. They are so strong that it keeps a waterproof seal over the interior of the Pelican case so that no water can enter; preserving my tools in mint condition.
The case is basically air-tight, though it has a controlled pressure release valve in case the interior pressure is too high or low.
It preserves the life of tools - party due to how tightly packed the case is, it's air tight, no water gets in, there's no friction of parts moving against each other that typically causes wear & tear.
Pelican Travel Wheels
So far I've had no issues with the wheels themselves, they are durable (as far as I can tell) and make carrying around a heavy tool box much easier.
Here's the pull clip that can be pulled away from the back of the Pelican case to support the fully extended handle used for wheeling the Pelican case on the street.
Pelican 1510 Tool Box Review
It appears consistently organized. The case closes tightly and keeps everything inside exactly how it was left beforehand.
The hard cover gives protection against just about everything. In fact, when storing the pelican, it may damage your car when it is tossed around because the case is that strong!
The Pelican case has a simple, compact, and organized appearance.
Though I don't use it for this purpose, it's has great surface area for adding bumper stickers to!
